Extreme heat: We will announce school closures if necessary, says Health Minister

PUTRAJAYA: Any decision to announce the closure of schools due to the continuous extreme heat will be done accordingly, says Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

The Health Minister said the extreme weather incidents must be reviewed in detail by Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan before making any announcements.

"Do not fear, if there is a situation that needs it (school closures) then we will announce it," he said when met with reporters at the Medical Device Authority (MDA) Award 2023 here, on Friday (May 3).

On Thursday (May 2), Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the El Nino phenomenon was expected to continue for the next two months while forecasts indicate this year could be the country’s hottest year.

Nik Nazmi said Kelantan, Perlis and Kedah were experiencing higher temperatures than Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
